  Carrie Mason

Carrie Mason is an artist based in Dorset and alumni of the Arts University Bournemouth, graduating with BA(Hons) Fine Art 2016 and MA Fine Art 2017.

Her practice focuses on the transformation of materials through the application of repetitive actions and includes drawing, sculpture, printmaking and occasional performance or video.

During her studies Mason’s research focused on the combination of energy and matter with immersive and repetitive activities that evoke a flow state of mind.

Mason recently undertook a residency in a redundant prison cell exploring how time is perceived in a restricted space and within the concept of the extended present that can be experienced during a period of incarceration. She created a body of work including a series of drawings tracing the ephemeral movement of light across the cell wall; a drawing made by piercing paper with a needle; and a paper sculpture of the cell bed using her body weight to manipulate and emboss the form onto paper over a period of 9 hours.

Mason’s interest in the impact of repetition and time on the body and materials continues with her current research exploring the sea as both material, collaborator and as an agent for material change.
