  Ilona Skladzien

In her drawing practice, Ilona Skladzien is mediating the online experience by investigating a variety of materials and exploring new working processes; looking to attract the viewer's attention to the intricacies and temporality of XXI century everyday experience.

Her projects include a wide range of contexts, such as our continuous participation in digital phenomena, online desensitization, objectivity, perception and the authenticity of our own memories with regards to imagery found online.

'Mission impossible' (2020) was made by drawing with black ink pen onto paper napkin and was informed by online photographs and videos on Covid-19. The ephemeral character of the work is emphasised by the watered-down ink marks, very slowly, gradually fading away in the direct, strong sunlight, potentially leaving nothing but reminiscence of what was there before.

'Loop' (2021), through applied working processes, use of ‘fugitive materials' and with the modelling of paper, was made as a response to repetitively watching a controversial online documentary on the Yulin Festival. Over a 6-month period, Ilona was exploring how the impact of every day stimuli influenced her response to the same online material watched repetitively.
